Janet and Ed Parton have owned this Garden Villa called "Y Lle" (Welsh for "The Place"), part of the Playa de Fornells resort, since 1986. The apartment has a great view over the rugged coastline and the pretty horseshoe bay of Cala Tirant.

Car hire is recommended, in order to take advantage of all the island has to offer. If you have not arranged this before hand there are a number of car hire companies on the site. The island is fairly flat so bikes are an easy way of getting around.

The resort of Playas de Fornells lies 2 miles from Fornells town, overlooking the beach resort of Cala Tirant. Its villas reflect the local architectural style, set in tastefully maintained flower and cactus gardens. It has its own small beach, and a footpath leads round to the larger beach at Cala Tirant, where you can hire sunloungers, parasols ,windsurfs and pedaloes.

All amenities are covered on-site. 2 Supermarkets, a car and bicycle-hire shop , friendly bars and a some excellent sea-view restaurants are all within a short walking distance.

Nearby Fornells harbour, a small and very smart looking fishing village is situated at the head of an enormous bay. An area ideal for windsurfing and sailing, both of which are on offer, with tuition from the many schools.Fornells is also renowned for its many waterfront seafood restaurants.

For bars and lunchtime snacks, try Rosa Negra, situated on a hilltop overlooking Playa de Fornells. Or you can enjoy excellent steaks for lunch or dinner at Es Cactus, two minutes’ walk from the beach of Cala Tirant.

Directions- The resort is a 40 minute drive from Mahon Airport. Take the main road from Mahon to Ciutadella ,after driving past the town of Alaior turn right, following signs to Es Mercadal and Fornells. Drive through the village of Mercadal after about 8 minutes, turn left into the entrance of the Playas de Fornells resort (a large white archway with a welcome sign). Follow the road over the first roundabout, turn right at the next and the road goes up the hill. Turn left at Es Cactus restaurant, straight ahead at crossroads and park behind the Garden Villa apartments. Our villa is down the 3rd set of steps on the left hand side. It is Garden Villa 1C3 with the sign "Y Lle" on the wall.
